Human Taste: How Imagination Shapes Everything We Do in Life

A personal reflection on childhood wonder, human taste, and how our choices define our experience of the world.

If there is one phrase that has been stuck in my head since I was a kid, it is this:

> "Imagination is creativity."

I remember hearing it back then and thinking it was just a nice line from a book or a teacher. But as the years went by, it kept coming back to me. And today, I want to talk to you about why that phrase matters so much—not just for artists or creators, but for how every single one of us lives our daily lives through something we often take for granted: our human taste.

Where It All Begins

Think back to when you were a child.

Remember how a simple cardboard box could be a spaceship? Or how a blank sheet of paper felt like an entire universe waiting to happen? As kids, we did not analyze things based on rules or trends. We just felt them. We imagined possibilities effortlessly because our minds were open to wonder.

That childhood spark is where your taste actually begins.

Imagination gives you the ability to see what could be. But taste is what you develop as you grow up. It is your internal compass—the quiet voice inside you that decides what belongs in your world and what does not.

Taste Is How You Speak to the World

We often talk about taste like it only belongs to fashion designers or art collectors. But let me ask you: Have you ever noticed how much of your daily life is shaped by your personal taste?

  • Look at the way you arrange your room so it feels like home after a long day.
  • Think about the songs you play on repeat when you are driving alone.
  • Notice the stories that make you stop and think, or the way you prepare a simple meal for someone you care about.

That is your taste speaking. It is your personal signature.

You and I could walk down the exact same street on the exact same afternoon, but we would notice completely different things. You might fall in love with the architecture of a doorway, while I might notice the way the afternoon light hits the pavement. Our taste filters reality for us, making our experience of life uniquely ours.

Why Human Taste Matters Right Now

We live in a time where so much of what we see, read, and listen to is recommended by algorithms or generated in seconds. Everything can start to feel a bit generic if we are not careful.

That is why your human taste is more valuable than ever.

Algorithms can show you what is popular, but only you know what feels authentic to you. Taste is what adds warmth, character, and soul to human life. When someone puts real care, intention, and personal taste into what they do—whether it is writing a letter, designing a space, or telling a story—you can feel it immediately. It connects with you on a human level.

A Question for You

So the next time you feel bogged down by routine or overwhelmed by the noise of the world, I want you to remember that childhood line with me: "Imagination is creativity."

Take a step back and ask yourself: What moves you? What kind of environment makes you feel alive? What stories resonate with your heart?

Your life is the biggest creative project you will ever work on. The choices you make, the spaces you create, and the taste you cultivate are all part of your story.

Keep imagining. Trust your taste. And never stop creating the life you want to live.

Thank you for listening.
